Rapid globalization and constant restructuring in work organizations gives rise to increasing demands for flexibility from employees and results in job insecurity, precarious work, job loss and unemployment. This development challenges many young people´s transition from school to work, as their careers are often characterized by discontinuity, and in many situations they find themselves under-employed or unemployed.
In many countries, an increasing amount of working-aged people end up in long-term unemployment causing increasing health problems and great difficulties in re-entering the labour markets. This development underlines the role of occupational and other health services in their efforts to maintain healthy workforce and to increase work life participation. Interventions and actions are needed on individual, organizational and societal levels to promote employment, resources, work ability, health and well-being, learning and productivity of workers at risk.
Main themes are
- Health situation of the unemployed
